ASABA – The Delta State Government has announced plans to propose a N1.5 trillion appropriation for the 2026 fiscal year to accelerate the execution of key projects and programmes across the state.
The State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this at a press conference in Asaba on Monday.
Aniagwu also revealed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and members of his economic team would depart for Germany on a duty tour to understudy the country’s investment environment, with a view to replicating viable models in Delta State.
He explained that the administration remains transparent and committed to keeping citizens informed about official engagements, particularly those aimed at enhancing the state’s development prospects.
According to Aniagwu, the state’s earlier trip to Brazil yielded tangible benefits, including the N59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover and the N39 billion Otowhodo Flyover in Ughelli.
“This groundbreaking initiative allows the governor to interface directly with people in rural areas rather than wait until election periods to connect with them,” Aniagwu stated.
He added that the timelines for ongoing projects had been reviewed to ensure earlier completion, while the State Committee on Agriculture was working to consolidate the gains from the Brazil visit.
Upon return from Germany, Aniagwu said, the government would perform the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Uromi and Otowhodo flyovers.
Commenting on the state’s recent political realignment, the commissioner described the April 28 movement of government officials and stakeholders to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a strategic and worthwhile decision.
He commended the state APC chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, for facilitating broader consultations that led to the recent stakeholders’ meeting at Government House, where participants endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori for a second term in 2027.
Aniagwu further disclosed that the government was finalizing new empowerment programmes to support entrepreneurs and small businesses across the state, involving the Ministries of Women Affairs, Youths, Job Creation Office, and the Ministry of Girl Child and Humanitarian Affairs.
On security, the commissioner said the recently launched Delta State Security Trust Fund was designed to attract private and institutional investment into the state’s security architecture in line with the governor’s M.O.R.E. Agenda focused on peace and stability.
He added that Delta’s collaboration with the Federal Government was already yielding dividends, citing the recent N35 billion Sapele–Benin Road groundbreaking and the state’s intervention on the Second Niger Bridge bypass from Asagba-Ogwashi to the Niger Bridge as key outcomes.
