BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has announced a major restructuring of its Ministries, following the approval of Governor Monday Okpebholo to reform and realign the structure of the State’s administrative framework with that of the Federal Government.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Umar Musa Ikhilor, the comprehensive reorganisation is aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency, improving inter-ministerial coordination, and ensuring effective delivery of government policies and programmes in line with the Governor’s SHINE Agenda and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
As part of the reform, the Governor approved the creation of new Ministries and the revival of some previously defunct ones, bringing the total number of Ministries in the State to twenty-eight.
The new structure, the government said, will better position the State to implement its development priorities across key sectors.
The newly approved Ministries include the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy; Works; Mining; Information and Strategy; Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Business, Trade and Investment; Agriculture and Food Security; Livestock Development; Environment and Sustainability; Health; Education; Physical Planning and Urban Development; Lands and Housing; Communications and Digital Economy; Science and Technology; Water Resources and Sanitation; Youth Affairs; Women Affairs; Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation; Power; Oil and Gas Resources; Finance; Budget and Economic Planning; Transportation; Justice; Labour and Productivity; Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations; and Public Security and Safety.
The statement also listed the Commissioners appointed to head the various Ministries, including Dr. Felix Ehiguese Akhabue (Works), Hon. Andrew Ijegbai (Mining), Prince Kassim Afegbua (Information and Strategy), Hon. Paul Nosayaba Ohonbamu (Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), Omoh Anabor (Business, Trade and Investment), Dr. Jerry Uwangue (Agriculture and Food Security), Prof. Omorodion Ignatius Ikponwosa (Livestock Development), and Barr. Nosa T. Adams (Environment and Sustainability).
Others are Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole (Health), Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu (Education), Dr. Lucky Eseigbe (Physical Planning and Urban Development), Hon. Yakubu Oshiorenua Musa (Lands and Housing), Ohimai Ehijimetor (Communications and Digital Economy), Hon. Etin-Osa Ogbeiwi (Science and Technology), Dr. Washington Osa Osifo (Water Resources and Sanitation), Hon. Charity Amayaenvbo (Youth Affairs), Eugenia Abdallah (Women Affairs), Barr. Marie Olabisi Idaomi (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation), Barr. Usenbo Paul Ehigie (Power), and Barr. Vincent Osas Uwadiae (Oil and Gas Resources).
Also appointed are Engr. Emmanuel Okoebor (Finance), Dr. Elizabeth Ebosele (Budget and Economic Planning), Hon. Saturday Uwuilekhue Idehen (Transportation), Prof. Roland Itoya Otaru, SAN (Justice), Godwin Afekokhe Eshieshi (Labour and Productivity), Hon. (Barr.) Kenneth Okoruwa Ihensekhien (Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations), and Hon. Ebea Festus Odianosen (Public Security and Safety).
Governor Okpebholo, while reiterating his administration’s commitment to good governance and economic transformation, assured Edo people that the restructuring was a deliberate step toward building stronger institutions, promoting accountability, and ensuring inclusive development across all sectors of the State.
