The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting technology-driven initiatives and youth innovation as part of efforts to accelerate development across the state.

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Etin-Osa Ogbeiwi, restated the government’s position during a proposal presentation by GovTech Procure Solutions Ltd., held at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Science and Technology in Benin City.

Ogbeiwi said the Ministry was open to collaborating with GovTech Procure Solutions Ltd. on initiatives that promote technological advancement, noting that the proposal aligns with the Ministry’s mandate to foster innovation and drive sustainable development.

According to him, the Ministry has a responsibility to identify and nurture young talents, while providing an enabling environment that supports capacity building, skills acquisition and innovation among Edo youths.

He described the proposal as laudable and comprehensive, adding that its implementation would deliver significant benefits to residents of the state, particularly in the area of youth empowerment and job creation.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of GovTech Procure Solutions Ltd., Dr. Bamidele Joseph, unveiled the “Edo Innovates” initiative, a programme aimed at identifying, nurturing and empowering young innovators across Edo State through mentorship, skills development and access to opportunities.

Dr. Joseph said the initiative is designed to stimulate economic growth through job creation, promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, attract investment and position Edo State as a hub for innovation and sustainable development.

He explained that the programme would feature exhibitions, hackathons, workshops, mentorship and networking sessions, while appealing to the Ministry for strategic guidance, youth mobilisation, access to resources and funding opportunities.
