BENIN CITY: The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to promoting indigenous innovation, industrial development, and national security as part of its strategy to tackle Nigeria’s industrial and security challenges.

The assurance was given by the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Etin-Osa Ogbeiwi, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Jonathan Ukpebor, during the Edo State Inventors’ Gathering 2025, themed “Sir Prof. Victor Uwaifo Edition,” organized by the Association of Nigerian Inventors (ANI) in Benin City.

Hon. Ogbeiwi stated that the gathering underscored the importance of homegrown inventions in providing practical solutions across critical sectors of the economy.

He noted that the Edo State Government is focused on creating a supportive ecosystem that enables inventors to develop, refine, and commercialize their ideas.

“The theme of the event, ‘Invention for Industrialization and National Security,’ aligns with the vision of Governor Monday Okpebholo, which prioritizes innovation, technology-driven development, and youth empowerment,” the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner also highlighted the role of the Ministry in fostering innovations in agriculture, mobility, safety, automation, and the creative industries, emphasizing how such developments are transforming communities and creating economic opportunities.

Inv. (Evang.) Mrs. Ekhosayator Priscilla of PEKOSA Foods and Woman Leader of ANI said the event is aimed at encouraging inventors and tracking their progress. She commended the State Government and Ministry for organising periodic seminars and exhibitions to give inventors visibility and support.

The gathering featured exhibitions of scientific, engineering, artistic, and technological innovations, lectures on intellectual property protection, and award presentations to inspire creativity, safeguard original ideas, and strengthen the link between invention and commercialization.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, represented by Mr. Joseph Obasuyi; the Centre Manager of the Technology Incubation Centre (TIC), Mrs. Obiefuna Joy Omosede; and members of ANI.
