BENIN CITY – The Edo State Special Security Squad Against Cultism and Kidnapping has given two alleged cult figures, Eddy Murphy and Eddy Vongus, a 72-hour ultimatum to surrender themselves to the authorities or face the full weight of the law.

The Taskforce Spokesman, Mr Idemudia Noah, issued the warning while briefing journalists on a recent cult clash along the Ugbighoko axis of Ekhenwan Road, Benin City, which was swiftly contained by security operatives.

“They are advised to report themselves to the authorities within 72 hours or face the full weight of the law,” Noah said, adding that the taskforce has detailed intelligence on the suspects and their activities.

He disclosed that Eddy Murphy is suspected to be a member of the Vikings confraternity, while Eddy Vongus is believed to be affiliated with the Black Axe confraternity.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the violence resulted from a clash between members of the two rival cult groups, with the suspects identified as key figures in the incident.

Noah said the taskforce has intensified raids on known cult hideouts and strengthened intelligence gathering across the state to prevent any breakdown of law and order during the Christmas festivities.

He assured residents that the squad remains fully prepared to respond swiftly to any security threat before, during and after the festive period, urging members of the public to report suspicious movements or cult-related activities to security agencies.

The spokesman also reassured informants that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality, noting that their identities would be protected.

The taskforce reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security across Edo State, assuring residents of a safe, calm and violence-free Christmas celebration.
