ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to ensure that the kidnapping of students in schools is brought to an end.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Monday at the End-of-Year Media Conference in Abuja.
Idris commended the President and security agencies for the recent rescue of the remaining 130 pupils and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, Niger State.
He also recalled that abducted church members in Kwara State had been reunited with their families, adding that those kidnapped in Kebbi State had equally regained their freedom.
“Let me reassure you that President Bola Tinubu has given a clear charge to the security agencies to ensure that this does not happen again,” the minister said.
“And where it unfortunately happens, there will be full disclosure and a swift response to ensure that no one gets away with kidnapping any member of Nigerian society.”
Idris said the Federal Government empathized with the parents of the pupils over the trauma caused by the abductions, especially during the festive season.
He wished the rescued victims a peaceful reunion with their families, a smooth healing process, and extended compliments of the season and Christmas greetings to them.
