WARRI: The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered a locally fabricated firearm, live ammunition, illicit drugs and other offensive weapons in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.

The Command said the arrests followed the assumption of duty of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, and are part of renewed efforts to curb criminal activities and reassure residents of enhanced security.

In one operation, officers of the Ekpan Division arrested a 30-year-old man, Gift Ojulowo, suspected to be a cultist and armed robber, during a routine patrol along Hausa Market, Ubeji, at about 1:20 a.m. on 10 January 2026.

The suspect reportedly attempted to flee with accomplices on sighting the police but was apprehended after a brief chase.

A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges concealed in his trousers. Police said the suspect confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang who escaped.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Command’s Raiders Unit arrested one Obi Onuigbi Ndubuoso, 43, on 8 January 2026, following credible intelligence on the circulation of illicit drugs.

A total of 36 bottles of nitrous oxide, popularly known as “laughing gas,” were recovered from the suspect.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the drugs and dismantle the distribution network.

Similarly, two suspected armed robbers, identified as Owakwe Chuks, 37, and Bright Moses, 32, were arrested in Agbor on 4 January 2026 in connection with a series of motorcycle snatching incidents. Items recovered from them included a hammer, a short knife, a brown face mask, a mobile phone and a face cap.

Police said the suspects were tracked through discreet investigations into a robbery reported on 24 December 2025.

In another incident, a 20-year-old man, Aliyu Haman, was arrested in Ogwashi-Uku for the alleged murder of his younger brother, also aged 20.

The victim was reportedly stabbed while asleep along Poly Road, near Adaigbo Filling Station. The weapon used in the attack was recovered, while the deceased’s body has been deposited at the Odua Mortuary for autopsy.

CP Adesola reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, assuring residents that criminals would be relentlessly pursued through intelligence-driven policing and sustained security operations.

All suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
