The Edo State Executive Council has approved the construction of additional road projects across the three senatorial districts to improve mobility and ensure safe, smooth movement of people and vehicles.

The State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Felix Akhabue, said the approval was in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to upgrading road infrastructure and other critical public assets across the state.

Akhabue spoke during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in parts of Edo South Senatorial District, including Ovia North-East, Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Areas.

He said the inspection, carried out alongside supervising engineers from the ministry, was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with approved specifications by contractors handling the projects.

Among the sites visited were the 9.5-kilometre Benin Technical School roads cluster and a major underground drainage system designed to channel storm water directly into the Ikpoba River.

The 1.2-kilometre underground drainage project, currently at an advanced stage, recorded intense activity, with full mobilisation of workers and heavy equipment.
The commissioner also inspected the 7-kilometre Oluku–Okhumwn–Siluko Road, described as a strategic alternative route intended to ease traffic congestion along the Oluku, Siluko and Ekenwan corridors of Benin City.

Akhabue disclosed that about 1.2 kilometres of the Okhumwn Road had already been asphalted, while earthworks had been completed in an additional 4.5 kilometres.

He said efforts had been intensified to complete the remaining section during the dry season.

Other project sites inspected included Upper Ekenhuan Road, the 12.6-kilometre Urhuokhokho–Ugbineh Road, Asoro Hill–Siluko Road, Catholic Charismatic Renewal Church Road in Ugboghoko, and several roads in Utte, including Palace Road along Upper Mission Extension.

The team also visited the two flyover bridges under construction at Sapele Road and Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill, where the commissioner expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work.

Akhabue expressed confidence that all the projects would be completed on schedule, citing the prompt release of funds to contractors by the state government. He assured that the current pace of infrastructure development would be sustained across all parts of the state.
