ABUJA: The Federal Government has urged development partners and stakeholders to ensure Nigeria’s food and nutrition policies align with current realities, global best practices and emerging research.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Deborah Odoh, made the call at a national validation meeting on the revised National Policy on Food and Nutrition (NPFN) in Abuja.

She said the review process would strengthen coordination, data systems and multisectoral action plans to improve nutrition outcomes, particularly for vulnerable groups.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Health, Mrs Uju Anwuka, stressed the need to bridge the gap between policy and practice, while UNICEF’s Chief of Nutrition, Ms Nemat Hajeebhoy, called for evidence-driven policymaking amid rising malnutrition indicators.

Stakeholders described the revised policy, covering 2026–2035, as critical to tackling food insecurity and malnutrition nationwide.
