BENIN CITY: The Coordinator, Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has reaffirmed that education remains the bedrock of societal development, dismissing claims that it is a scam.

Mrs Anani spoke at the WAEC Examination Enrolment Scholarship Award Ceremony organised by the Women’s Wing of the Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW) at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy, Benin City.

She described education as central to personal growth, informed decision-making and productivity, noting that the initiative aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE agenda.

The ENAW Women Affairs Coordinator, Mrs Meg Ogbeide Uzz, disclosed that 360 WAEC scholarships were awarded this year, up from 300 in the previous academic session, due to high demand and positive impact.

ENAW President, Engr. Bose Oviasu, said the association planned to expand the scheme to include university sponsorship, while the Executive Chairman of the Senior Secondary Education Board, Dr Rita Erewele, praised the intervention for helping to curb future social challenges.
