Civil and public servants at Government House, Benin City, have participated in an ongoing safety drill exercise organised by the Edo State Ministry of Public Safety and Security as part of efforts to strengthen emergency response capacity across government institutions.
Addressing staff, the Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Hon. Festus Ebea, said that the exercise formed part of the ministry’s routine enlightenment and preparedness campaign aimed at equipping public officers with the necessary skills to respond effectively in the face of unexpected emergencies.
He urged workers to remain open-minded and fully engage with the trainers throughout the duration of the drills.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Queeneth Orebedo, encouraged staff to view the exercise as a vital opportunity to acquire basic but critical knowledge required during emergency situations.
Officials from the Department of Safety and Security, the State Fire Service and the Nigeria Red Cross Society facilitated practical sessions, taking participants through a range of drills designed to prepare them for real-life emergency scenarios.
Staff from the Office of the Secretary to the Edo State Government, the Office of the Head of Service, the Permanent Secretary, Government House and Protocol, as well as Human Resources (Central Administration), were in attendance at the exercise.
