PANKSHIN — The Catholic Bishop of Pankshin Diocese, Michael Gokum, has urged Nigerians to prioritise integrity and competence over ethnicity, religion or party affiliation in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the launch of the 2026 Lenten Campaign in Pankshin, Plateau State, Gokum lamented worsening insecurity, rising poverty, hunger and deteriorating infrastructure.
“Our situation is not getting better. It is only people of good conscience and integrity that can address these enormous challenges,” he said.
He called on eligible citizens to participate in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise to secure their voter cards, while also urging prayers and support for leaders at all levels.
The bishop noted that proceeds from the Lenten campaign would support the poor through the Church’s Justice Development and Peace Commission, benefiting Christians, Muslims and others alike.
