ABUJA — The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has tasked commanding officers to deepen tactical-level leadership to enhance combat readiness within a joint and multi-agency operational environment.
Declaring open the First Commanding Officers’ Workshop 2026 in Abuja, Shaibu said the theme, “Enhancing Tactical-Level Leadership in a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment,” aligns with his command philosophy and the Nigerian Army’s transformation agenda.
Represented by the Chief of Transformation and Innovation, Maj.-Gen. Olusegun Abai, the Army Chief emphasised that commanding officers occupy a critical link between operational and tactical command levels.
He urged participants to leverage the workshop to reflect on unit performance, retrain troops and strengthen discipline, regimentation and junior leadership.
“As commanding officers, you bear the responsibility of translating strategic directives into favourable operational outcomes. You must guide young officers and soldiers who look up to you for leadership and mentorship,” he said.
The Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Maj.-Gen. Maxwell Dangana, underscored the need for adaptive and collaborative leadership in tackling asymmetrical and transnational security threats.
Similarly, the Chief of Training, Maj.-Gen. Valentine Okoro, said the initiative supports efforts to build a more professional, adaptable and combat-ready force.
The workshop is focusing on command efficiency, group administration, cyber security awareness, objective performance evaluation and equipment maintenance in the field.
