Youth leaders of the Labour Party from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have declared their support for the party’s national leadership led by National Chairman Barr. Julius Abure and National Secretary Alhaji Umar Farouk.

The position was contained in a communiqué issued after a virtual meeting held on March 10, 2026, between the state youth leaders and the party’s National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu.

In the communiqué, the youth leaders expressed concern over recent developments within the party, particularly a court judgment which they claimed recognised a non-member as interim caretaker chairman, as well as what they described as the illegal invasion and takeover of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

They stated that after deliberations during the quarterly interactive meeting, the youth leaders unanimously reaffirmed their loyalty to the existing national leadership of the party.

According to the communiqué, the youth leaders passed a vote of confidence on Abure, Farouk, Ahanotu and other national officers of the party, describing them as the constitutionally recognised leaders.

The youth leaders also condemned the alleged unlawful takeover of the party’s national headquarters, warning that Labour Party youths across the country would soon respond to the development. They announced plans to mobilise youths to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja in the coming weeks.

The group further called on the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Legal Disciplinary Committee to investigate the January 21, 2026 judgment of the Federal High Court which they alleged imposed Senator Nenadi Usman on the party’s leadership.

They also rejected any attempt to dissolve the party’s ward, local government and state executive structures, warning that such actions could undermine the party’s internal stability.

The youth leaders commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what they described as clarifying the limits of the authority claimed by Nenadi Usman in relation to the leadership of the party.

They, however, urged Nigerian youths who support the Labour Party not to lose hope, stating that the party remains committed to providing a platform for young people to realise their political aspirations and contribute to building a better Nigeria.
