The Moroccan Football Federation has asked CAF to suspend Namibian referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa after the WAFCON final between Nigeria and Morocco.
Morocco lost the match 3–2 and believes some decisions by the referee were unfair. They submitted video evidence to CAF, claiming there were “serious refereeing mistakes.” One of their main complaints was about a penalty given to Nigeria, which they described as too soft. They also questioned why their own penalty in the 82nd minute was cancelled after a VAR review.
The penalty was first awarded for a possible handball but later overturned after a long check by VAR, led by Salima Mukansanga.
After the match, Morocco FA president Fouzi Lekjaa reportedly confronted the referee during the medal ceremony and
was accused of making threats.
Following the controversy, CAF removed its head of refereeing, Désiré Noumandiez Doué. However, CAF has not officially announced any punishment for the referee.
So far, no action has been taken against Twanyanyukwa.
