BENIN CITY — The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its resolve to deliver durable, standard-compliant road projects across the state, with a firm assurance that ongoing works will be completed within stipulated timelines.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects Monitoring and Implementation, Engr. Phoebe Williams-Bello, gave the assurance during a three-day inspection tour of ongoing road projects in Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts.
Addressing journalists in Edo Central, Williams-Bello expressed satisfaction with both the pace and quality of work observed on various project sites, while urging contractors to sustain the momentum.
She commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for prioritising infrastructure development and ensuring prompt payment to contractors, a move she said has enhanced efficiency and delivery.
“As you can see, we have covered about five kilometres at the binder level, and the wearing course will follow. We want to thank my principal, Senator Monday Okpebholo, because contractors are not being owed, and that is why you can see them actively on site delivering the work,” she said.
One of the contractors, Engr. Michel Haddad, expressed confidence in meeting project timelines, particularly on the 11.5-kilometre dualisation project linking Ewu, Uromi, Igueben and Ekpoma, assuring that the work would be delivered on schedule.
On the third day of the tour in Edo North, Williams-Bello inspected ongoing palliative interventions on failed sections of the Auchi–Igarra–Aiyetoro–Unemu–Nekhua–Aiyegunle–Ekpesa–Ibillo–Ekor road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. She reassured residents of the government’s commitment to restoring motorability and delivering projects promptly.
“I am very sure that within this timeframe, His Excellency will deliver major roads across Edo North, Central and South. I urge Edo people to be patient. We are addressing road deficiencies, and by God’s grace, we will achieve significant milestones in the coming months,” she added.
During the inspection of the 9.6-kilometre Ibillo–Igarra road, the Special Adviser acknowledged the level of progress made but charged contractors to intensify efforts to accelerate completion.
The contractor handling the project, Engr. Bajwa Mohd, assured that quality would not be compromised, noting that the work had already recorded significant progress.
“You can see the project is progressing well, and very soon we will achieve over 50 per cent completion. We are committed to delivering quality and standard work that will last for years,” he said.
Other projects inspected during the tour include the Irrua–Illeh–Usenu–Ukhun Road, Irrua–Akho–Illeh–Ukhun Road, Ewatto–Udo Road, Idumu Iyasele Road, Ideselu–Ewatto Road and Ohe–Ozea Road.
The inspection marks the first quarterly project review exercise led by Williams-Bello, covering key infrastructure projects across the three senatorial districts of Edo State, as part of the administration’s drive to ensure accountability, quality delivery and accelerated development.
