OSOGBO: Maj.-Gen. Olusegun Abai, Chief of Transformation and Innovation at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, has urged Nigerian Army recruits to remain resilient and uphold their warrior spirit as they complete training. He delivered the charge on Thursday during a seminar at the Depot Nigerian Army in Osogbo, themed “Warrior Ethos: A Tool for Building Unit Cohesion and a Combat-Ready Force.” The event was organised by the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation, Abuja, for the recruits.

Speaking to the recruits, Abai said the warrior ethos, marked by courage, discipline, and resilience remains the foundation of a formidable fighting force.

He explained that the seminar was designed to equip army officers, soldiers, and recruits with practical knowledge, strategies, and tools to overcome operational challenges on the battlefield.

“The seminar today focuses on intensifying the warrior ethos, a concept that has never been more critical than now as we confront the modern psychological and physical demands of frontline operations,” Abai said.

He added that the theme aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, aimed at transforming the Nigerian Army into a professional, adaptable, and combat-ready force capable of discharging its constitutional duties effectively in a joint and multi-agency environment.

Abai emphasised that the Army’s greatest asset is the mental and physical well-being of each soldier. He warned recruits about the psychological toll of prolonged operations and the risks of substance abuse, urging them to keep their warrior spirit unbroken.

“Let us use this seminar to bridge the gap between trauma and triumph. Together, we will continue to uphold the honour of the Nigerian Army and secure the peace our nation deserves,” he said.

Retired Maj.-Gen. Charles Ofoche, a resource person at the seminar, urged the recruits to be fearless, patriotic, and uphold the Army’s creed.

“You must fight well and win the battle because that is the spirit of the Army. Embrace selfless service, honour, integrity, courage, loyalty, and discipline. You must have a warrior spirit. It is what drives you to win the war,” Ofoche said.
