…as team Edo surge to 2nd position

‎The Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, yesterday commended Team Edo for their outstanding performance at the 3rd National Para Games in Abuja.

‎Team Edo finished second on the medal table with 25 Gold,14 Silver and 15 Bronze medals as competition came to an end in the Federal capital City,Abuja.

‎The Edo State Sports Commission boss described the team’s medal haul as a reflection of the resilience, discipline, and determination that define the competitive spirit and strong character of an average Edo person.

‎Enabulele specifically praised Para Table Tennis athletes for delivering on their promises. Ivie Edogiawerie Peculiar delivered a remarkable performance, clinching two gold medals in the Women’s Open Singles and Class 10 events.while Blessing Aiwekhoe also impressed, winning gold in the Class 5 Women’s Singles and the Mixed Doubles alongside Olowe. Ada Okungbowa secured bronze in the Men’s Singles Class 5, while Kazeem Adejunye added another bronze in the Men’s Class 4 category of the para table tennis event.

‎In Para Cycling, Favour Ojieabu stood out with two gold medals and one silver, while Samuel Okojie contributed a gold medal to the tally. Cynthia Wanogho further strengthened the team’s performance in Para Powerlifting, winning gold in the 50kg division.

‎Enabulele also acknowledged additional medal successes recorded in Para Powerlifting and Para Taekwondo, noting that their efforts have significantly boosted team Edo’s overall standing.

‎He said that he was confident that team’s momentum, he urged the athletes to remain focused and disciplined as the competition reaches its climax.

‎Team Edo featured 47 athletes in 10 sports, including Para Athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Cycling, Canoeing, Karate, Powerlifting, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, and Wheelchair Tennis.

‎Events held at two venues — Jabi Lake for Canoeing, and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium for the rest sports.

‎Edo State has now climbed to second place on the medals table with 25 gold, 14 silver, and 25 Bronze medals. Enugu State leads with 36 gold medals, while Bayelsa,Lagos,Rivers, Plateau,Imo and Osun states occupy third fourth,5th,6th and 7th positions respectively.

‎Enabulele reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to sustained investment in athlete development at all levels.

‎Curtains will be drawn on the competition on Friday, April 3, 2026.
