BENIN CITY — The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has intensified monitoring of political parties’ primaries ahead of the forthcoming Local Government elections, overseeing nomination processes across multiple parties.
EDSIEC Chairman, Hon. Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, urged political parties and their members to maintain peace and adhere strictly to guidelines during the exercises.
“We are committed to providing a level playing field and upholding the integrity of the electoral process from these primaries to the main elections,” he said.
Aifuobhokhan disclosed that the commission monitored primaries of eleven political parties, including the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Party (ADP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), Allied People’s Movement (APM), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Action Peoples Party, and Accord Party.
He explained that the monitoring forms part of EDSIEC’s broader efforts to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process, adding that more party primaries would be observed in the coming days.
Earlier, on April 6, 2026, the commission monitored the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries across the 18 local government areas, bringing the total number of parties observed so far to thirteen.
