Abuja: Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has appointed his nephew and music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as head of youth mobilisation for his campaign council in the build-up to the state’s gubernatorial polls.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Afrobeats maestro disclosed this in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, expressing enthusiasm about the role and support for his uncle.

He wrote: “I have been appointed by the Governor of OSUN STATE @AAdeleke_01 and flag bearer of the ACCORD PARTY as HEAD YOUTH MOBILIZATION OF CAMPAIGN COUNCIL!

“We look forward to a smooth campaign and you RE-ELECTION Your Excellency! 4+4.”

The appointment comes as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election slated for August 8, with Adeleke seeking re-election under the Accord Party.

Davido’s latest appointment adds to his growing involvement in Osun politics, as he has been a vocal supporter of Adeleke and has played active roles during previous political activities and campaigns in the state.

In 2025, he was named Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a role designed to attract investment into sports development in the state.

The “Awuke” crooner, who formally joined the Accord Party in December 2025, brings significant star influence to energise youth engagement in the campaign, especially among his massive young fan-base across Nigeria and beyond.
