‎Middle-Belt Tigers opened their Nigeria Super League campaign with a composed four-wicket victory over Western Dolphins on Saturday in Lagos.
‎The match took place at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval, Lagos.
‎Western Dolphins won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping to build early pressure in the second match.
‎The Dolphins posted 129 for six in their allotted 20 overs after a spirited batting display.
‎David Abiebhode provided an explosive start, smashing 31 runs from just 17 deliveries.
‎Ajekun Daniel steadied the innings brilliantly, scoring 31 from 32 balls with patience and control.
‎Animashaun Muheez added valuable support, contributing 25 runs to strengthen the Dolphins’ total.
‎Middle-Belt Tigers responded with disciplined bowling and smart field placements throughout the innings.
‎Captain Runsewe Sulaimon led by example, returning figures of two wickets for 17 runs.
‎Speaking after the innings, Sulaimon said, “We remained focused and trusted our bowling plans.”
‎Abolarin Abdulrasheed Ayomide also impressed with the ball, helping to restrict scoring opportunities.
‎Ndubudem, Eghosa Aghedo Destiny and Ogunnaike Folajuwon claimed one wicket each for the Tigers.
‎Their collective effort prevented the Dolphins from accelerating during the closing overs.
‎Chasing 130, Middle-Belt Tigers began carefully but lost early wickets during the powerplay.
‎Solomon Chilemanya anchored the chase with an unbeaten 33 off 30 deliveries. His innings included two boundaries and two towering sixes under pressure.
‎Captain Sulaimon also contributed with a calm and responsible knock during the chase..“We knew the target was achievable if we stayed patient,” Sulaimon said.
‎Western Dolphins attempted a comeback with regular breakthroughs during the innings.
‎Destiny Chilemanya led their bowling effort and kept the Tigers under pressure.
‎However, Middle-Belt Tigers held their nerve and reached the target in 18.5 overs.
‎The victory gave the Tigers an encouraging start to the tournament campaign.
