Nigerian sprint sensation Kanyinsola Ajayi produced a stunning performance at the NCAA East Regionals in Lexington, Kentucky, after blazing to a wind-assisted 9.90 seconds to win his 100m heat, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Running with a legal wind reading of 1.2m/s, Ajayi bounced back strongly after missing out on the final of the event at the SEC Championships earlier this season.
The impressive time now makes the Nigerian the fastest man in the NCAA this year and the second fastest athlete in the world so far this season.
Ajayi dominated the race from start to finish, crossing the line comfortably ahead of Davonte Howell, who finished second in 10.09 seconds.
The performance further underlines Ajayi’s growing status as one of the brightest sprint talents in collegiate athletics and boosts expectations ahead of the NCAA Championships.
