Bayelsa United have officially kicked off preparations for the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season after holding their first training session at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
The opening session signaled the start of the club’s pre-season programme and was overseen by the technical crew led by assistant coach Ngozi Elechi, alongside Anderson West.
Players were taken through light fitness exercises and tactical drills as the coaching staff evaluated their current fitness levels ahead of a more demanding training schedule.
The squad is expected to be boosted by the arrival of more players in the coming days as preparations continue for the Bayelsa United/Prosperity Cup Pre-Season Tournament in Yenagoa.
The tournament forms part of the club’s build-up towards the new campaign and aligns with Governor Douye Diri’s vision of returning Bayelsa United to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the end of the 2026/2027 season.
Addressing the team before training, board member Godson Ekarde challenged the players to approach the new season with commitment, discipline and a winning mentality, stressing that the campaign must be treated as a serious mission.
Ekarde assured the team that the management remains fully committed to providing the necessary support required for a successful NNL campaign. He also charged the players and technical crew to repay the confidence placed in them by delivering improved performances and securing promotion back to the NPFL.
