The Edo State Commissioner of Police Patrick Daaor and his Ondo State counterpart Felix Ohagwu have engaged in handshake patrol to strengthen security along the border Communities of both states.
They both seek the collaboration of sister security agencies including Edo State security vigilante network, Edo hunters, Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), the Nigerian Army in ensuring lives and properties are safe in the border towns across both States.
Edo CP’s entourage includes Assistant commissioner of police in charge of operations Peter Gana, Area Commanders of igarra and Ekiadolor, Odugbeson Olusesan and Umar Garba respectively.
Others are DPO Ekiadolor and Sobe Division Temofe Nwanbueze and Agu Oliver.
The entourage of Ondo and Edo State CP’s met at Sobe a border town and moved to another border town Ogbese community in Ondo State where they were received by elders of the Ondo Community led by Chief Okogun Oshokeluse.
CP Daaor said that both commands are integrating the border communities in Edo and Ondo to partner effectively with security agencies to check insecurity around the areas.
“When I resumed as CP Edo I said my main priority is the safety of Edo people. After reporting I met with CP kogi and today we are here to meet with CP Ondo to strengthen the border security we have started.
“We are not only encouraging police on how to synergize but actively showing them how to go about it.
“We are also integrating communities involved both in Edo and Ondo to partner effectively to ensure that they have phone numbers of DPOs and Area Commanders in these areas for easy communications.
“It is easier for a response to come from these nearby areas than to come from the headquarters as distance has a major role to play in tackling crime and criminality.
“I thank CP Ondo for coming out and I assure you that we would sustain this collaboration so that both Edo and Ondo State will have a community they can be proud of where citizens can carry out their businesses without fear”.
CP Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu said both commands have embarked on a security collaboration with Edo which is codenamed “flushing out criminal elements from Edo and Ondo State Forest”.
“We have identified three camps in the forest from where these criminals terrorize the communities but as we speak our men are in the forest.
He noted that Inline with the IGP directive the both commands have done handshake patrol at Sobe and moved into the heat of Ondo to another border town Ogbese community where the Ogbese river is separating Ondo and Edo State.
Ondo CP said that the Ogbede river is used as an escape route for criminals after carrying out nefarious activities in the border town. This collaboration will help to block both exit routes from the two states
Edo CP also visited the Palace of the Odibiado of Sobe Kingdom His Royal Highess (HRH) Anthony Ero Aleburu to seek for collaboration to strengthen security in the border areas.
