The Executive and entire membership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State Chapter has congratulated the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele on the emphatic and historic 7-0 victory recorded by the Nigerian champions, Edo Queens FC over AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic in their opening encounter at the 2026 WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Edo SWAN noted that the commanding victory is not merely a football result; it is a powerful statement of the quality, determination and winning mentality that continues to define Edo’s sporting culture under the purposeful leadership of Enabulele.
” Scoring seven goals against a continental opponent is a remarkable feat that has once again placed Edo Queens and, by extension, Edo State, firmly in the spotlight of African women’s football.”
The Association particularly commended the Edo State government and the Sports Commission boss for their unwavering commitment to the development and promotion of sports in the state.
” Your vision, passion and relentless pursuit of excellence have continued to inspire athletes, coaches and sports administrators, while creating an environment in which Edo athletes and teams can compete confidently at national and international levels.”

SWAN stated that the 7-0 demolition of AS Garde Nationale has further demonstrated that Edo Queens are not in Burkina Faso merely to participate, but to compete and make history.
