Nigeria’s Falconets will today open their training camp for the U20 World Cup in the South-western town of Trzebnica.
The Nigeria U20 ladies are booked into Hotel Trzebnica and will be there until September 3.
The team led by coach Moses Aduku are expected later today in Poland.
Already Benfica Ladies striker Janet ‘Semenya’ Akekoromowei has landed in Poland directly from her base in Portugal to join up with the rest of the squad.
It is a major boost for the Falconets as they will do well to have her goals after her Portuguese club previously tried to stop her from the World Cup.
The U20 Women’s World Cup kicks off September 5 and Nigeria open their campaign two days later with a tough tie against Spain in Sosnowlec, Poland.
[8/23, 5:58 PM] Kenny: Enugu City Marathon: Sponsors Jostle For Place As Race Day Draws Near
The buzz in Enugu is mounting as the 2nd Enugu City International Marathon edges closer, with just 6 days to go. The race has sparked a wave of sponsor interest, as major corporations, growing brands, and local enterprises rush to secure a spot at what has quickly become one of the region’s most talked-about sporting events.
Set for Saturday, August 29, 2026, the marathon has grown beyond athletics to become a key platform for business, culture, and community.
The momentum will build further when the 5-day Marathon Expo opens on Monday, August 24 at the landmark Michael Okpara Square, offering brands and the public a first taste of the race-week experience.
According to organizers, the spike in partnership requests shows how far the event has come. For companies, the marathon offers direct access to thousands of runners, fans, and visitors, while placing their brands at the center of Enugu’s rising sports and tourism profile.
“The Enugu City Marathon is now bigger than the race itself, a representative of Nilayo Sports Management said. Brands want to be part of the movement, the excitement, the unity, and the spotlight the city will enjoy.”
Telecoms, beverage companies, fitness labels, real estate players, and homegrown SMEs are all expected to light up the Expo with activations. Over five days, Michael Okpara Square will host product exhibitions, wellness engagements, cultural showcases, and entertainment hubs ahead of the main event.
With backing from the Enugu State Government, the marathon is also set to drive trade and tourism. Hotels, eateries, transport services, and local vendors are gearing up for the expected influx of guests and participants.
Officials say the race fits into Enugu’s plan to establish itself as a destination for sports and culture. “This is about more than running, a state official said. It’s about showcasing Enugu’s energy, creating opportunities, and uniting people.”
The activities will peak with the _World Press Conference on Thursday, August 28_, where organizers will announce final race plans, security details, and prize information.
Then on Saturday, August 29, the city hits the road:
_42km Elite Marathon_: 6:30AM | Flag-off at ShopRite, Abakaliki Road
_10km Fun Run_: 8:30AM | Start at Chris Tee Petrol Station, CIC Road, finish at Michael Okpara Square
Race kits, brand displays, and fan activities will all be centered at the Expo as Enugu officially enters marathon week.
Six days to go, the brands are in, the city is set, and Enugu is ready to run.
