Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress will face Cameroon for the second time in five days on Wednesday, with a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket at stake.
The Nigerian youngsters meet Cameroon in a high-stakes quarter-final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, seeking revenge for their narrow 75-74 defeat in the group phase.
The quarter-final is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, with the winner advancing to the last four and keeping alive Nigeria’s hopes of a deep run in the competition.
Nigeria finished second in Group C with two victories and one defeat.
They opened their campaign with a 54-50 victory over Tunisia before suffering the agonising overtime loss to Cameroon.
They responded strongly by defeating Senegal 70-40 to secure their place in the knockout stage.
Cameroon, meanwhile, enter the quarter-final with a perfect 3-0 record.
They opened with a 61-30 demolition of Senegal before edging Nigeria and completing the group phase with another victory.
The rematch presents a major test for the Junior D’Tigress, but Nigeria can take confidence from how closely they pushed Cameroon in their first meeting.
The statistical battle also suggests a competitive contest.
Cameroon have averaged 65.7 points and 65.7 rebounds per game, compared with Nigeria’s 66 points and 49 rebounds.
Nigeria, however, have the better three-point shooting percentage at 22.6 per cent against Cameroon’s 16.7 per cent.
Nigeria’s defensive performance will also be crucial.
Against Senegal, the Junior D’Tigress forced 34 turnovers and dominated the rebounding battle 53-45, demonstrating the intensity that could prove decisive against Cameroon.
With the group-stage defeat still fresh, Wednesday’s encounter offers Nigeria an immediate opportunity to settle the score and, more importantly, move one step closer to the title.
