Ghana’s Black Spikers have advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship in Nairobi, Kenya, after overcoming Zambia in a fiercely contested Round of 16 encounter.
The Ghanaian side showed resilience when it mattered most, eventually securing a 3–1 victory over Zambia in Match 26 on Day Six of the continental championship.
Ghana edged Zambia 29–27 in a thrilling opening set before Zambia responded strongly to claim the second set 25–19.
The Black Spikers, however, regained control of the contest and finished strongly, taking the third set 25–19 before closing out the match with a 25–17 victory in the fourth set.
The hard-fought result sees Ghana move into the quarter-final stage, keeping their hopes of making a deep run in Nairobi alive.
Elsewhere, Rwanda also booked their place in the last eight after cruising past Burkina Faso in straight sets.
Rwanda dominated from the opening whistle, winning 25–19, 25–16 and 25–8 to complete a commanding 3–0 victory.
With Ghana and Rwanda now through to the quarter-finals, attention shifts to the next stage of the competition as the remaining teams battle for continental supremacy in Nairobi.
Other teams that have punched their tickets into the last eight are host Kenya, Algeria, Uganda and Cameroon
