Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has assured residents of Ovia Federal Constituency that reconstruction of the failed section of Okhun Junction on Upper Siluko Road will commence in line with the 2026 Edo State budget.
This is contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Friday Aghedo, and made available to newsmen in Benin on Thursday.
The assurance followed concerns expressed by residents, particularly on social media, over the deteriorating condition of the road and calls for urgent government intervention.
Responding to the concerns, Idahosa said Gov. Monday Okpebholo had already approved the construction and rehabilitation of major roads across Ovia Federal Constituency as part of his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the welfare of the people.
He explained that the rehabilitation of the affected section of the road was duly captured in the 2026 Edo State budget, adding that persistent heavy rainfall had affected the pace of construction activities across the state.
According to him, the government has made adequate arrangements to ensure that work begins immediately weather conditions become favourable.”
The Deputy Governor also highlighted other ongoing and planned infrastructure projects in the constituency, noting that construction work is progressing on the Ekewan Barracks–Gelegele Road.
He further disclosed that Gov. Okpebholo recently secured federal approval for the dualisation of the Oluku–Sobe Road during a visit to Abuja, adding that the project had since been awarded by the Federal Government.
Idahosa also announced the approval for the construction of the approximately seven-kilometre Okhun Road, which will link the Ugbowo–Lagos Expressway with Upper Siluko Road.
“These projects are evidence of the administration’s commitment to transforming road infrastructure, improving connectivity, and stimulating socio-economic development across Ovia Federal Constituency.
“That narrative that little was being done for the Ovia federal constituency by this administration is false. The Okpebholo administration has continued to invest significantly in Ovia, with more developmental projects in the pipeline,” he explained.
He reaffirmed his support for the governor’s developmental agenda, stressing that the ongoing infrastructure projects reflected the administration’s resolve to improve the living conditions of residents.
Also speaking, the member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, said road rehabilitation remained a top priority for both the governor and the deputy governor.
She said the Edo State Government was working diligently to ensure that ongoing road projects were completed without unnecessary delay, while efforts were also being intensified at the National Assembly to attract additional federal road projects to the constituency.
Igbinedion appealed to residents not to politicise the condition of the roads, expressing confidence that the interventions of both the state and federal governments would soon bring lasting relief to commuters and residents across Ovia Federal Constituency.
