Omo-Ogiefo Handball Team ,Edo State’s representative in the 2026 Ardova Handball Premier League, has appealed to corporate organizations, government agencies, philanthropists, and well-meaning Nigerians for urgent financial support to enable it participate effectively in the nation’s highest handball competition.
The club made the appeal in a press release signed by the club’s Technical Director and Secretary, Osemwengie Elvis.
The club, founded with the vision of discovering, nurturing, and empowering young athletes, has become one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing grassroots handball clubs, providing opportunities for children and young people to develop with discipline, leadership, education, and sporting excellence as their core values.
Osemwengie explained that within a short period, the club has recorded remarkable achievements, including winning promotion from the National Division One Championship to the prestigious Ardova Handball Premier League.
According to him,the club represented Edo State in the 2025 Ardova Handball Premier League, finishing as Bronze Medalists ,thus establishing itself among Nigeria’s top handball clubs.
He added that the club has also produced athletes who have represented Nigeria at international competitions, demonstrating that grassroots investment can produce national champions.
“Beyond competition, Omo-Ogiefo Handball Club serves as a platform for youth development by keeping young people away from crime, drug abuse, cultism, and other social vices through structured sports programmes, mentorship, and character development,” the release said.
It noted that as preparations intensify for the 2026 Ardova Handball Premier League, “the club faces significant financial challenges. Funding is urgently required to cover players’ camping, feeding, transportation, accommodation, registration fees, medical support, equipment, training kits, and other logistics necessary for successful participation.
“The estimated cost of preparing and participating in the competition runs into several millions of naira, an amount that is beyond the club’s current financial capacity.”
“The club is therefore inviting corporate organizations including banks, foundations, government institutions, private businesses, and individuals to partner in this noble mission.
“Every young athlete deserves an opportunity to succeed regardless of financial background. We have proven our ability to develop champions despite limited resources. With the support of corporate organizations, government, and generous Nigerians, we can continue producing future national and international stars while positively transforming lives through sports.”
Omo-Ogiefo Handball Club believes that investment in sports is an investment in youth development, peace, healthy living, and national progress.
