Nigeria women premier league football champions Edo Queens’ preparation for WAFU-B continental football tournament received a big boost today as the Chairman of All Progressives Congress APC, Edo State, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe paid a surprise visit to their camp and redeemed the pledge he made during the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six in Portharcourt.
Delivering the morale boosting package to the Nigeria champions, the sports loving Edo APC boss charged the team to be good ambassadors at the forthcoming West Africa Football Union (WAFU-B) play – off in Burkina Faso.
Tenebe who did not want the cash prize for the team announced urged the players to remain focused and take their training programme seriously as they fine-tune their readiness for the CAF champions league prelim campaigns.
He commended the players for making Edo State proud during the NWFL Super six showpiece in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Tenebe, who was accompanied by the Executive Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Enabulele, revealed that the State government has put all logistics in place for the team to excel in Burkina Faso, adding that the girls have all it takes to face any team in Africa.
According to him: “We are very proud of you girls. I can see you are doing very well in your build up to the continental engagement. You made the state proud during the regular league season. For Edo Queens to have won the league trophy in a battle involving six NWFL premiership giants goes to show that we are fully ready for the Continental challenge.”
“I am very happy with your level of preparation for the WAFU- B play- off in Burkina Faso. So,I urge you all to show total commitment, go there and conquer again as you did in 2024. We are solidly behind you. Also know that the State governor, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, is waiting to receive the WAFU- B trophy. I wish us the very best of luck.”
“I want you all to be good ambassadors of Nigeria while in Burkina Faso. Know that all eyes are on Edo Queens as champions of Nigeria in the NWFL premiership. You girls have to prove to them that your being Champions of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), is not a fluke.” He enthused.
