Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, OFR, ROI, was among the distinguished guests invited to Yenagoa by his friend, Bayelsa State Governor, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, as part of activities marking the state’s 30th Anniversary celebration.
Pinnick was in Bayelsa State to participate in the celebrations, which included the recognition and honouring of 40 Bayelsa-born sports legends for their outstanding contributions to sports and the development of the state.
A novelty football match was also organised as part of the anniversary activities, bringing together prominent personalities, government officials and sports stakeholders to celebrate Bayelsa’s rich sporting heritage. Pinnick actively participated in the novelty match, featuring for the Executive Arm team.
Pinnick, a Delta State-born football administrator, has had a distinguished career in football administration. He previously served as Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission on two occasions and was also Chairman of the Delta State Football Association for several years.
At the continental and global levels, Pinnick served as a member of the CAF Executive Committee and the FIFA Council, becoming one of Nigeria’s most prominent football administrators on the international stage.
He also made history as the first NFF President to serve two consecutive terms in the modern era of the federation.
Pinnick currently serves as Presidential Adviser to the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, and Deputy Chair of the FIFA Men’s Competitions Committee, continuing his active involvement in international football administration.
