ABUJA – Vice President Kashim Shettima says President Bola Tinubu is committed to reducing transportation costs in Nigeria through sustained investment in infrastructure and comprehensive reforms across the transport sector.
Shettima stated this on Monday in Abuja at the inauguration of the National Working Committee of the National Structure of Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027.
The Vice President, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadeija, said the administration regarded an efficient and affordable transportation system as critical to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
He acknowledged the challenges confronting transport workers and other Nigerians as a result of rising transportation costs, noting that the government was taking steps to address the factors responsible for the high cost of movement.
According to him, transportation remains central to the nation’s economy because it connects communities, facilitates the movement of people and goods, and enables farmers, manufacturers and traders to participate effectively in economic activities.
Shettima said the administration was therefore prioritising investments in critical infrastructure aimed at improving connectivity and eliminating bottlenecks within the transportation system.
He listed highways, rail corridors, ports, clean mobility initiatives and logistics infrastructure among the areas receiving attention under the administration’s transport development agenda.
The Vice President noted that improvements in the sector would translate into increased national productivity, stressing that shorter travel times, more efficient ports and safer journeys would ultimately reduce the burden on businesses and citizens.
He also commended transport workers for their contribution to the national economy, describing them as key players in the movement of people and goods across the country.
Shettima urged the workers to remain committed to the nation and support efforts aimed at strengthening the economy, while cautioning them against misinformation and acts capable of undermining national development.
Earlier, the National Coordinator of Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, Segun Obayendo, commended the Tinubu administration for its reforms and investments in the transportation sector.
Obayendo said the group would mobilise transport workers and build nationwide support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
