The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, brief Nigerians and key stakeholders on its preparations for the 2027 General Election as the 100-day countdown to the polls begins.
The commission announced that it would hold a World Press Conference alongside a National Stakeholders’ Meeting at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC), Abuja.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, is expected to lead the engagement, which will focus on critical aspects of the electoral process, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and safeguards for the conduct of credible elections.
The commission said the meeting was aimed at strengthening transparency and ensuring regular communication with stakeholders as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
Among those expected at the meeting are political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations, election observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.
The stakeholders’ meeting is also expected to provide a platform for various actors in the electoral process to engage the commission on issues surrounding the forthcoming elections.
The event will commence at 10:00 a.m., with guests expected to be seated at the venue by that time.
INEC said the proceedings would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms.
Attendance is strictly by invitation, while accredited media representatives and invited guests are required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
The October 6 engagement comes as INEC enters a crucial stage of its preparations for the 2027 elections, with stakeholders expected to closely scrutinise the commission’s readiness and plans for delivering a credible electoral process.
