The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of 164 candidates contesting the 24 constituencies in the Edo State House of Assembly election scheduled for 2027.

The list features candidates from 14 political parties, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) fielding candidates in all 24 constituencies.

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) is fielding 23 candidates, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 16 candidates. The Labour Party (LP) is fielding 11 candidates.

Other political parties have fewer candidates on the list. The Action Peoples Party (APP) is fielding five candidates, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has four, while the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has three.

The New Democratic Party (NDP) and African Action Congress (AAC) have two candidates each, while the Action Alliance (AA) and National Rescue Movement (NRM) have one candidate each.

A gender breakdown of the list shows that women account for 16 of the 164 candidates, representing approximately 9.8 per cent of the total.

The female candidates are contesting in 10 of the state’s 24 constituencies.

The Social Democratic Party has the highest number of four female candidates, followed by the Action Democratic Party, which has three.

A statement signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony says the release of the list marks a key stage in preparations for the 2027 Edo State House of Assembly election, as political parties and their candidates position themselves for the contest across the state’s 24 constituencies.
