Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State have Commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for appointing 250 Special Assistants in Egor local government describing it as a boost to grassroots development.

The commendation came as the 250 ASs received appointment letters during a meeting with party leaders in Egor Local Government Area.

Some of the leaders who spoke with journalists said the appointments go beyond political recognition believing that the initiative will strengthen grassroots engagement and bring government closer to the people.

They also expressed confidence that the appointments would help ensure that government policies and programmes reach communities across Edo State’s eighteen local government areas.

Deputy Chief of Staff to Edo State Government Pius Alile who was present at the event urged appointees to collaborate and partner with community leaders and elders to promote development in their wards.

“This is a grassroots initiative of the governor and it is going to improve the socio economic lives of those that have benefited.

“It will enable the grassroots to contribute to governance because those that benefited are part of the grassroots and they are going to work in the community”.

The APC Egor local government Chairman Emma Iyase, urged the appointees to be committed as the Gov Okpebholo led administration will reward hardwork.

“There is reward for hardwork and the reward has come, I encourage all appointees to galvanize votes for the party to ensure victory and as victory comes more benefit come”.

Other party leaders say increased grassroots participation will give more citizens the opportunity to contribute to governance and benefit from the dividends of democracy.

Emmanuel Igiehon, Special Adviser to Edo State Governor said the governor has created basic infrastructure and employment with the appointment.

Emwinghare Osabuohien, SA Eghor Local Government Area says the appointment is different from other appointments because not only party members benefited but youths in the grassroots also benefited

APC Ward Chairman Osaigbovo Omorose, thanked the governor for the appointment, noting that they will put in their best to support the governor to ensure he delivers the dividends of democracy to Edo people.

As the newly appointed aides assume their responsibilities, attention will be on how they translate their appointments into effective grassroots engagement and improved service delivery.
