As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Mr. John Osirenimhe Odior FCA , ACTI has called on residents in the State to embrace tax payment and integrity in service as part of the shared duty of nation-building.
In his anniversary message, Mr. Odior said the occasion offers a moment to reflect on “how far we have come and how much we can still achieve together.”
He acknowledged that the country’s journey since 1960 has had its share of challenges. He, however noted that the resilience, hard work and hope of Nigerians, particularly the people of Edo State, have kept the nation moving forward.
The Chairman used the occasion to appreciate taxpayers, partners and the Edo IRS family for their contributions, which he described as the quiet foundation of public infrastructure.
“Honest tax payments support the roads residents travel, the schools their children attend and the clinics that serve our communities,” he said.
He added that “nation-building is a shared duty,” stressing that each time citizens pay their taxes faithfully and public officers serve with integrity, they help keep alive the promise of independence.
