The Edo State Esports Association (ESEA) is set to host a two-day esports championship in Benin City on October 30 and 31, featuring five teams competing across six gaming titles for a prize pool and incentives valued at more than ₦1 million.
The ESEA Bronze Series Esports Championship 2026 will feature Bros Emma Games, Estabein Esports, Maximus, Sugu and the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Esports Team.
According to the organisers, each team will comprise six players, a substitute and a coach, with participants competing in EA SPORTS FC 26, eFootball Console, Mortal Kombat, NBA 2K, Street Fighter and Rocket League.
Activities on the opening day will take place at the Media Centre of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Stadium Road, Benin City, while the Grand Finale is scheduled for the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub on Airport Road.
The competition is aimed at promoting organised esports in Edo State by providing local players with a platform to showcase their skills, gain competitive experience and compete in a structured team environment.
The organisers described the event as the first team-based esports championship of its kind in Nigeria, a claim that could not be independently verified at the time of writing.
The championship has received the endorsement of the Esports Federation of Nigeria (EFN) and the Edo State Sports Commission. It is also backed by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Tourism and Creative Economy, alongside other institutional supporters and partners.
The tournament will bring together competitive gaming disciplines covering football simulation, fighting games, basketball and vehicular sports, with organisers expecting participation from gaming enthusiasts and members of the wider sports and creative communities.
The competition will conclude with the emergence of the inaugural ESEA Bronze Series team champions.
The championship forms part of ESEA’s efforts to develop a structured esports ecosystem in Edo State and create more opportunities for players to participate in organised competitive gaming.
