President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, has declared that an African national team must win the FIFA World Cup.
Motsepe made the statement yesterday during the CAF Strategy Conference in Cape Verde.
The CAF president stressed the need for African football to raise its ambitions and compete for the biggest prize in international football.
According to Motsepe, the continent possesses the talent and potential to produce a World Cup-winning nation, and achieving the feat should be a major objective for African football.
No African team has reached the FIFA World Cup final, with Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals at Qatar 2022 remaining the continent’s best performance at the tournament.
