Bendel Insurance FC striker Kayode Solomon Oke stole the spotlight despite his side’s 2–1 defeat to Sporting Lagos in their Matchday 8 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), scoring what was reported as the fastest goal of the season.
Kayode needed just 18 seconds to put the Benin Arsenals ahead at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, handing the visitors an early advantage in the keenly contested encounter.
However, Sporting Lagos responded through Victor Samuel, who restored parity in the 14th minute before Gafar Olaniyan completed the turnaround with the winning goal in the 22nd minute.
The hosts held on to their advantage for the remainder of the match to secure all three points, ending a three-game winless run.
Despite the setback, Kayode’s impressive performance continued a promising run of form for the forward, who scored twice in Bendel Insurance’s emphatic 4–1 victory over Barau FC in Matchday 7 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The victory over Barau FC ended the Kano-based side’s unbeaten run and provided a much-needed boost for the Benin Arsenals.
However, Bendel Insurance were unable to build on that result in Lagos and missed the opportunity to improve their points tally beyond the 12 points they had accumulated.
The Benin-based side will now turn their attention to Matchday 9, when they travel to Enugu to face Rangers International next weekend, hoping to return to winning ways.
