Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), of government’s readiness for partnership towards the actualization of the MORE Agenda with the aim of fast-tracking development in the state.
The call was made through the Senior Policy Adviser, Rt Hon. Funkekeme Solomon who paid a familiarisation visit to the leaders of the two labour centres in their offices in Asaba.
Hon. Funkekeme said that the executive council of both unions were the major link between government and its workers as such there was need for mutual understanding and agreement in areas that needed urgent attention, particularly the welfare of workers in the state.
He said that Oborevwori had been a friend to labour and had also been a friend to the people, adding that they should continue to support government by discharging their duties effectively.
The Senior Policy Adviser said that government needed maximum support and collaboration from the executive council of both unions to succeed in her policy implementation in the state.
He invited the labour leaders and their members to a retreat that would be put together by the office of the Senior Policy Adviser where issues relating to government policies and developmental agenda of the Oborevwori-led administration would be unfolded.
Hon. Funkekeme added that labour had always been in collaboration with the state government and appealed for stronger and greater support from both arms of the union.
He said that with the invitation of Julius Berger Construction Company to Delta State for construction and building of quality and standard roads, it was a good beginning and a show of more good things to come.
In their separate remarks, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku and his counterpart in the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Martin Bolum, pledged labour’s support to the government, and commended the Senior Policy Adviser on his approach to governance.
The two labour leaders recalled that the accomplishments of Hon. Funkekeme was commendable, emphasizing that his visit was a gateway to industrial peace and good labour relations.
The Senior Policy Adviser’s office supervises the SERVICOM and Labour Relations office and was accompanied by the Director of SERVICOM and Labour Relations office, Uche Onwusanya and some staff of the office.
