The Nigeria Olympics team has been finalized, revealing the athletes who will represent the country across various events at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Team Nigeria is gearing up to depart for the quadrennial event in the French capital.
Scheduled to begin on July 26 in France, the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics will feature Nigeria prominently.
Since its debut in Helsinki in 1952, Nigerian athletes have participated in every Summer Olympic Games, except for Montreal in 1976 due to a Congolese-led boycott. A total of 82 Nigerian athletes will compete in at least 11 disciplines in 2024.
The Paris 2024 Games will commence with an exciting opening ceremony on July 26th. While Paris serves as the primary host city, some competitions may start as early as July 24th, with other French cities also co-hosting events.
Nigeria, known for its consistent participation in the Summer Olympics, will field a team of 82 athletes competing across 11 sports. Track and Field leads the contingent with 32 athletes, including 14 men and 18 women. Football follows with an 18-player squad, and Basketball with 12 players ranks third.
In a first since 2016, Nigeria will send three boxers to the Olympics: Dolapo Omole (men’s featherweight), Olaitan Olaore (men’s heavyweight), and Cynthia Ogunsemilore (women’s lightweight). All secured their Olympic berths by advancing to the finals in their respective weight classes during qualifying tournaments.
