… generate $559 mn last season
Borussia Dortmund, a Bundesliga club, announced on Friday that they achieved the highest single-year turnover in their history, generating 509.1 million euros ($559 million) last season. This figure, which excludes income from transfer fees, marks a 24 percent increase compared to the previous season.
Despite finishing fifth in the Bundesliga, Dortmund’s unexpected run to the Champions League final, where they were defeated 2-0 by Real Madrid, was a key factor in their record revenue. Additional contributors to the increase included higher TV revenue and merchandising sales.
“This is my 20th annual press conference, and it’s certainly one of the most satisfying ones,” said club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke on Friday.
The actual revenue for Dortmund is expected to be even higher, considering they sold English midfielder Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid for 103 million euros during the reporting period.
As the only German club listed on the country’s stock market, Dortmund announced they would pay a dividend of six cents per share due to their record-breaking financial results. As with all German football clubs, Dortmund operates under the 50+1 rule, which ensures member control and limits external investment or ownership.
