Miffed by increasing economic crisis and hardship, even after the resent 10 days End Bad Governance protest in Nigeria, youths from Niger Delta region say they are set to stage a peaceful protest against hardship and hunger on Nigeria’s Independence Day.
This is contained in a notification letter to the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, dated August 23, signed by the Niger Delta Youth Council of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Itoro Joshua, and secretary, Comrade Moses Dickson.
The letter reads in part, “…we the Niger Delta Youth Council of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State Council, wish to formally notify Your Excellency of our intention to carry out a nationwide peaceful protest against hunger, hardship, scheduled for October 1st, 2024.
”As a youth organization committed to the welfare and progress of the people, we cannot remain silent in the face of increasing economic challenges…”.
They however assured the governor that the protest will be peaceful and conducted in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, with the goals of drawing the attention of the Federal Government to the plight of the citizens and to demand for urgent steps to address pressing issues affecting the lives of Nigerians.
Meanwhile, the youths have also notified the state Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, seeking police protection, even as they promised to carryout a peaceful nationwide protest.
