The NFF said that in the event of German Bruno Labbadia pulling out as Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Technical Director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Coach Augustine Eguavoen will now take charge of the Super Eagles for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic in Uyo, September 7, and Rwanda in Kigali, September 10.

Having fulfilled all contractual terms with Bruno Labbadia before the emergence of the tax dispute, the disagreement that ends Bruno becoming the sixth German and 37th Nigeria coach, the NFF quickly named the former Super Eagles captain to lead the team against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the Matchday 1 and 2 of the 2025 African Nations Cup qualifier.

Following, the Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen will submit the list of two assistant coaches and one goalkeeper trainer to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for approval, BSNSports reports.

A reliable source BSNSports, “The NFF is not the one to give Eguavoen the assistant coaches. He will send the names of the coaches he likes to work with to us (NFF), and then they will resume work together on Monday in Akwa Ibom State. ”

“We have decided to give all national team coaches the free hands to select their assistant coaches for better results.” The source added.

Nigeria will host Benin Republic on Saturday 7th September 2024 and three days later travel to face Rwanda in Kigali.
