…host Bayelsa Utd. on Thursday

Bendel Insurance Football Club against all expectations suffered a 3-0 defeat at Ikorodu City in the Match Day Six of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) game in Lagos on Saturday.

The match played at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos saw the Benin Arsenals conceding three unreplied goals in the second half of the game after a goalless first half had raised their hope for a point away from home.

The three goals came from Ayemwenre (48mins), Kelechi (55mins) and Ajeyigbe in the 73rd minute to give Ikorodu City their first victory in the season.

The embarrassing result has left the dressing room of the Benin Arsenals devastated as team members questioned what could be responsible for the shocking defeat in the hands of the league’s new entrants Ogaboys.

Some of the players, including the captain Meyiwa Oritseweginmi in their reactions said, “This is the worst result. What’s happening to us? We just have to wake up and tackle the problems.”

The captain added that the boys just have to work harder to get their lost grounds recovered, beginning with the Thursday clash with Bayelsa Utd. in Benin City.

Bendel Insurance FC’s start to the new football season has been challenging, following the exit of their most regular first eleven of Amas Obasogie, Benjamin Tanimu, Sunday Anyanwu, Ebuka Akobundu, Divine Nwachukwu, Evans Ogbonda, Chisom Okereke and others who made the team solid since past two seasons.

Insurance FC has six points in the six matches played so far with one home victory against 3SC; two home draws (Rivers Utd, El-Kandmi Warriors) and one away draw at Tornadoes, and two away losses at Katsina Utd and Ikorodu City.
