Nigeria’s Yusuf Gbemisola has received an invitation from the African soccer governing body, CAF, to participate in the 2024 Young Referee Course in Cairo.
Gbemisola joins 20 other young referees from across Africa selected for this four-day course aimed at nurturing future officiating talents.
The invited referees, all aged between 15 and 21, were chosen from the best officials in the initial CAF African Schools Football Championship (CAF ASFC) finals. They will receive guidance from the CAF Refereeing Department on topics such as integrity in football, game positioning, and game management. Additionally, they will receive an introductory course on VAR Basics, among other key areas.
This program, which forms part of CAF’s broader strategy to cultivate world-class referees, has provided international experience to over 170 young referees since its inception. The Young Referees Programme, conducted through the CAF African Schools Football Championship, aims to prepare these rising talents for officiating on both African and global stages.
