Former Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has earned a prestigious nomination for the International Federation of Football History and Stats (IFFHS) Men’s National Team Coach of the Year award.

Peseiro, who guided Nigeria to a silver medal at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), joins a 20-man shortlist, including top coaches like Spain’s Luis de la Fuente, England’s Gareth Southgate, and Argentina’s Lionel Scaloni.

The Portuguese coach received acclaim for his defensive coaching that helped fortify a Nigerian squad known for its attacking strength. Under Peseiro’s guidance, the Super Eagles came close to securing their first AFCON title since 2013, showcasing a strong run despite personnel challenges in defense.

Peseiro’s departure earlier this year, after his contract expired, left the Nigeria Football Federation still seeking a permanent replacement. His legacy, however, continues, with this IFFHS nomination recognizing his contributions to Nigerian football.
