BENIN CITY – The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, has reaffirmed that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration is deeply committed to a people-centric policy thrust, as evidenced by the remarkable achievements recorded within his first hundred days in office.
Hon. Ohonbamu made this statement during a Stakeholder Sensitization Workshop themed “Exposing the Policy Thrust of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s Administration,” organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications, in collaboration with the Edo State Government.
The event, held at the New Festival Hall in Government House, Benin City, aimed to enhance public understanding of the administration’s vision and encourage citizens to actively engage in the government’s developmental agenda.
In his address, the Commissioner emphasized that the sensitization initiative aligns with the Ministry’s mandate to foster communication between the government and the people.
He detailed some of the key policies, programs, and projects implemented by Governor Okpebholo’s administration within its first hundred days, underscoring the governor’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of Edo residents.
A panel discussion moderated by Hon. Ohonbamu provided further insights into the administration’s policy directions.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomole, highlighted the governor’s dedication to accessible and affordable healthcare. He cited the launch of a two-year free malaria treatment program, the provision of 24 hectares of land for the establishment of a National Obstetric Fistula Centre, the rehabilitation and equipping of primary healthcare centers, and the extension of the retirement age for health workers as key initiatives.
He called on stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to support the government’s efforts in creating a healthier society.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, shared that the administration has embarked on the rehabilitation of dilapidated schools inherited from the previous government.
He also noted ongoing recruitment and promotion of teachers across the state, urging communities to safeguard school infrastructure to ensure sustainability.
Adding an academic perspective, Prof. Felix Oriakhi of the Department of Political Science, Federal University Otuoke, and Dr. Onoho’ Omhen Ebhohimhen of Mewar International University, Abuja, commended the governor for his significant strides across various sectors.
They underscored the importance of training revenue enforcers, establishing a proper waste management system, and reviving the Storm Water Project.
They further emphasized the role of citizens in addressing the state’s challenges and urged active participation in governance.
Goodwill messages were delivered on behalf of Governor Okpebholo by the Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okongbowa, and on behalf of the Deputy Governor by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Pius Alile.
In his vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Desmond Agbama, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for attending the workshop and encouraged continued dialogue and collaboration in advancing the administration’s policy thrust.
