… Accuses INEC of stalling representation

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarret Tenebe, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately conduct bye-elections for two vacant legislative seats in the state.

Speaking in Benin City, Tenebe condemned what he described as an unreasonable delay, warning that the people of Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia North East/South West Federal Constituency have been left without representation for over three months, a situation he said violates democratic values and electoral laws.

The vacancies emerged after Senator Monday Okpebholo resigned to contest and win the governorship election, while Honourable Dennis Idahosa vacated his seat to become the Deputy Governor.

Tenebe challenged INEC to act promptly, suggesting that if the Commission lacks the capacity to organise the elections, the responsibility should be transferred to the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.

He stressed that the continued absence of elected representation disenfranchises the public and damages the credibility of the democratic process.
